2 march 2010 - thanks to all that attended our 2nd winter social at swindon golf club here is a write up that nick winwood did for the event.

With the first Black Country Carpers winter social being a great success it was decided that it would become an annual event. With the harsh winter rapidly settling in, making the fishing impossible it was soon time to start organising again.
The venue was booked up for Saturday 6th February and with the help of Black Country Baits ‘An Evening with Gardner Tackle’ was confirmed. Lewis Reid & Neil Wayte were set to give a slideshow talk each on the evening. With the help of Scotty at Virtual Studios a flyer was designed and printed. I’ll have to give a shout out to my girlfriend here as she did a great job on the guillotine, cutting out the A5 flyers.

After a lot of promotional work by me and a few helpful others the night was set to be a good one. Until we got the bad news that Neil Wayte was unfortunately unable to attend due to other commitments.  With three weeks to go before the big day and quite a few phone calls made, ‘An Evening with Lewis Reid & Friends’ was organised.  Now we had three guest speakers confirmed for the event including,  Nash consultant Callum Mcinerney, ESP & Angling Intelligence consultant James Turner & Gardner Tackle’s Lewis Reid.

Black Country Baits were set to hold a tackle and bait stall, whilst Coventry Carp Leads were organised to hold a stall selling various leads at only 50p each. With time against us it was time for a lot of facebook whoring and magazine advertisements to get the amended details out there.

On the big night, I arrived a little later than expected and everything had already been set up. After a few introductions were made, we were all set for everyone to arrive.

After delaying the start by fifteen minutes due to the queues at the door, Roy the site owner kicked off the night by welcoming everyone along to the event and did his little introduction speech, before introducing the first speaker onto the stage.  First up was Callum Mcinerney giving us a talk on the highs and lows of his fishing and how he overcame problems and also giving out some hints and tips that he has used to great effect.  James Turner talked us through some of his most memorable moments through his fishing, from banking some of the historic Wrasbury characters to catching some of the Silvermere residents whilst displaying his lunch box!  James demonstrated the washing line method that he used to great effect along with his rig collections that he has found successful over the years.

After a little interval and the prizes dished out in the raffle, it was time for Lewis Reid to take us through his journey whilst fishing the most famous complex in the country Yateley. Lewis described his favourite captures from most of the lakes at the Yateley Complex and described how he went about to catch some of the most elusive mirrors across the land, from the likes of Jumbo & Scaley to the Car Park Lake residents Dustbin and the ultimate prize Heather the Leather.

Lewis Reid

All of the guests were virgin speakers and did an excellent job talking to near enough 100 midlands carp anglers, whom they could hardly understand. I’m sure all three speakers took home a bit of ‘bostin’ Black Country lingo.

A total of £200 charity money was raised on the night, and will be split between ECHO and Carping 4 Cancer.
I would like to thank everyone who helped out organising the event , everyone who turned up to support the event and lastly the guest speakers for taking the time to travel up to the mighty black country and talk to us all. A highly enjoyable evening was had by all, roll on next one.

11th May 2009 - Everyone seems to be catching apart from me this year ! Its one of those years i think, but saying that,, a lot of carpers do seem to be stuggling in general for some reason. After speaking to a lot of local anglers fishing this year seems to be very slow. The fish are there but are being very picky. The BCC carp cup is running but due to work commitments and lack of work for others is a bit of a stuggle. I am out this weekend on my round of the BCC cup hopefully it should be a good session.

i have been trying out a kelly kettle for the last few sessions, its a brilliant piece of kit for carp fishermen, more so as we have the time to find sticks/ leaves etc to use a fuel to burn in it,,its great if you drink a lot of tea/ coffee like me. i have done a little bit of a video review and will be putting it on here soon in the tackle review section along with a few other items of tackle i have been testing out.

Old carp gear wanted from the 80's - I am on the look out for old carp tackle at the moment,,dunno why but i quite fancy a set of old mitchell 300's or shimano triton 3500 baitrunners and some old carbon or glass rods to match my delkims and gardner rod pod from the 80's. Gotto get the solar monkeys out as well ! If you have anything of interest please dont hesitate to give me a shout.

5th march 2009 - well its been a pretty cold winter this year, with lots of snow and ice, lakes frozen over etc. so not many fish have been out over the last few months. But hey,,its march,,spring is here,,still a bit cold but the fish are starting to feed,,so get out there and give them some food !

Don't forget to buy your new rod licences, due April 1st !

on a good note, i have finally managed to get my head around (well sort of) the website software, and i will be able to keep it updated more often (i hope !)

13th July 2008 - New website updated! Please let me know what you think of it!

  • There is a new section on the forum for Linford Lakes members, ONLY for members! This means you need to contact me if you're a member once you're signed up and I'll assign you the priveledges to use the private forum.

As for fishing, well i have been busy at work and with other things have not been able to get onto the bankside so far this month. I will however be going very soon.
kenny and mark, my shift working comrades have decided to not go fishing any more,,well it seems that way ! they just go camping once a year to keep me company i think ! they too have been very buisy at work and not had time to get out there.

June 2008

I am out again next week for a long session down at linford lakes. I have been getting plenty of questions on Linford, unfortunately i dont think there are any places left but you can allways try calling dave marle or ask at the onsite tackle shop. For more info please look at the linford lakes website which is regularly updated with monthly catch reports and news. Click here or the logo to goto the linford lakes website.

(update 25/6/08)
Well i finally managed carptalk,,its took me years of not bothering to publish any of my pics etc and i thought stuff it,,i will give it a go this week and hey presto i am there !! well chuffed !

Carp Talk

WooooHooo!

More news, a young lad had the shock of his life last week when he hooked a common carp on the brownhills canal whilst fishing for small stuff on maggot. A large crowd gathered round whilst he battled with it for nearly an hour, i dont know the end result as my friend dave had to go,he did take a photo of the battle in progress. hopefully the lad got it in and the fish was looked after, but on a size 20 hook and 4lb line it was touch and go !

May 2008

Well,i was'nt going to do it,,but we have our own forum. Its still under construction but its getting there. Please join the forum, it wont work without members and it will be very usefull for finding out info and news around the midlands / and rest of the uk.we need your input !!!!
The clothing is now done ! If anyone should want any, please contact me.
As promised, here is some more info on the clothing, modeled by kenny on our trip out this week is the stylish bcc t shirt !
fruit of the loom, heavy dutry.the t shirts are around £10 ,hoodies around £15, fleece coats are around £20, sweaters are about £12, polo shirts are around  £12 .the more orders i get the more cheaper it is. Ken had been wearing this Tshirt for 3 days hence it was a little ruffled !,the badge is much redder,,the sun made it look faded red on the picture for some reason,,,,and yes we blanked again, apart from 4 bream and 2 big tench for me,,no carp, tut !!!!

Congratulations to Mark Russell with this capture of a 17lb common from a private lake in wolverhampton. This was caught using 2 peices of popped up rubber corn over a bed of blood worm pellet and was the biggest of 5 caught on 15/2/08. Look out for Mark, he should be making a regular apperance on here.

We finally got together!

It took a long time but after about 10 years or more, me and my old chums finally got together for my wedding reception, it was a great night, and was a nice supprise to find out Dave Williams aka Gypo (the one looking like Terry Nutkins from animal magic!) may be perswaded to go on a session carping with me soon, after a bit of a break of 13 or more years from the scene,,i shall keep you posted ! Apparently i looked like Marlon Brando out of Acopolipse Now, Neil would not tell me much about his new stratergy on carping apart from he was pre-baiting the next day in the snow! Ben was his normal joker self trying to give me stubble rash by kissing me or sticking his tongue in my ear, and Elvis looking mean for the camera in one of his many poses,,some things just never change LOL!

Back Together

me, ben, gyp, neil, elvis

Don't forget to buy your new rod licences due April 1st!

On a non-fishing note, I finally got married!

It took me 15 years but we just got back from getting married in Barbados, i did'nt manage any fishing, but i did catch Jaime on the 17 march 2008!
