up to yet ive generally used stiff hooklinks but want to start experimenting with a coated hooklength so just a couple of questions for you. First of all do I need to buy a stripping tool and what sort of rigs can I use. Im thinking to just make my rigs as usual to get the stiff boom effect but with the end inch or 2 stripped to soften the hook end up. Also seen people strip a couple of parts every couple of inches or so to give a couple of hinge effects, is this a good rig ?

Any advise for a newcomer to it would be appreciated, thanks.

Everyone will have there own fave coated hooklink, I personally use good old 25lb snake bite, been around forever its as tough as ol' boots and has NEVER let me down. It has fibre glass strands inside to add a bit of weight. I found with some other coated hooklinks that the outer is prone to damage either in the tying of the knot or thro snags.

Saying all that ... im loving hyrolink at the mo thumbsup

The rig you descibe is possibly the concertina rig ? but tbh iv never used it.

btw ... definatly never had a need for a stripping tool !

you don't need a stripping tool but they do make life easier and save your teeth! they also give you a nice clean cut / break in the coating thumbsup

you can use coated materials for pretty much any rig, pop ups or bottom baits. go for a knotless knot presentation and strip an inch near to the hook and leave the rest

I use suffix coated braids. They come in many different colours and the spools seem to last forever. No need for a stripping tool, a long thumb nail usually does the trick.

I use Suffix braids but do find that after an excursion into reeds the hook link can come back partially stripped, it happened to me last week and I lost the fish,

Hyrolink is brilliant and a little differant.
Some of the softer Suffix coated braids do loose their coating, id only use stiffsilt personaly (but it is stiff).
The best iv found (via many recomendations on here, and the bank) is Jellywire. Coating comes off easy with nails, but dont break on the knot, the only time its split is after a fish, limp, thin, ace....cant fault it. thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup
