found a great feature on the water im fishing in the form of a very steap bar, i plan on placing baits top middle and bottom as the bar steps up 6ft in a distance of about 5 feet, whats the best way of getting my rig st stay where i want it along with free offerings rather then it all ending up at the bottom?

If you roll your own boilies, flatten them into disc shapes befor boiling. They'll sink at a slower rate & hold the bottom without rolling down the slope. Chopped boilies will do the same ;)

grippa leads and half baits mate, but id also fish at the bottom of the bar too as this will be where the carp would be used to picking up baits that have rolled down the bar from other anglers thumbsup

like everyone else says i think gripper leads for holding you rig in place and depending on how far your fishing out maybe chop boilies in half in pva bags possibly.
hope this help if not im sorry lol

Hi Make,

Ahhhh brings me back to my harefield & Savay days!!!

Spent some time fishing the tops of the bars then and i went with the following,

Flat inlines or pear leads ( have a look at the atomic tackle gripper leads)

With regards to bait, chops are good but we used to make a paste up, boil up blocks of it then chop into squares.... worked a treat plus with the squares you can mould them into a block and caty them out.

Couple of question though mike? how big it the top of the bar? if its narrow then you will never get bait on there.... we used bright pop ups, popped up a couple of inches as the fished used the bars like roads and travelled on top but (as listed above they feed heavy at the bottom)

Can you place a bait or do you have to cast?

What about line lay between the rod tips and the bar?

Hope it helps mate thumbsup

in the end i managed a few fish off the top of the bar as it was nice and wide, the trench was to messy due to the amount of large sticks and cr*p that had gathered along it (not nice silt if you know what i mean) and never produced. hoped to place a bait half way up as i think the fish were crusing along the side of the bar due to its steapness with the strong under toe i reckon the bottom was constantly turning over making easy pickings for mr carp. but never manged to get it quite the way i wanted, tried zigs from the trench but never produced. hinged stiff rig and a good gripper done the business in the end - thanks for the adivice fellas thumbsup
